Caio Mancini was born in Guaxupé, a small town in the state of Minas Gerais. He started playing guitar and bass when he was 15. Now he is the newest member of the “Paulo Costa Trio” group.

Tell us a little bit of his story.

I left my town when I was 24 to live and work in São Paulo. After I lived in Fortaleza, a city in the state of Ceara, where I met my wife. I moved back to São Paulo and worked in Campinas, a town nearby São Paulo. I work as an I.T. consultant. I travel through international companies to oversee the work they do (a “nerd!”)

What is your relationship with music?

No one in my family is a musician but my parents always loved music, they had very diverse tastes. My first interactions with music were with the rock. In school, my friends and I decided to form a band, and all the instruments were borrowed. We played together for 10 years all over Guaxupé, mostly at night. We did the music for others, mostly alternative things. As we got older we switched our style to MPB (Brazilian Bossa Nova).

After I finished college with my degree in Computer Science, I moved to São Paulo and stopped playing. I had a musical break of 5 years. I started playing when I moved to Cleveland and found “Paulo Costa Trio”.

How was your adaptation in the United States?

I came to the U.S to work. When I first arrived in Cleveland in 2015, it was a brutal winter of -15C (5 F), it was a lot and I even thought of giving up. I came to America to work on a 1-month project. I had issues with the culture, with the people, I was anxious, wanted to leave everything behind and go back to Brazil. But, with the help of my wife, I stayed. I always took my guitar with me no matter where I went. I really enjoy playing and interact with music and people. For me everything is new, a new country, a new language, and new friends.

To end things, a quick association game

Brazil = energy

US = work

Music = happiness

Family = necessity

Bass = favorite toy

Answer for your future kids: Who is Caio?

Caio is a resilient person, who doesn’t give up easily. Who knows me knows that nothing came easily and everything I conquered was with a lot of dedication. I always studied and worked a lot.
